New York's shortage of nurses has strained hospital staffs and placed patients at risk. Forced to work extra hours to make up for the shortfall, many nurses burn out from shifts that can stretch from 12 to 16 consecutive hours. That just makes a bad situation worse and endangers more lives.

This article was interesting considering that there is such a demand for more nurses in our workforce. It talks about nursing as a midcareer. My older sister actually became a nurse when she was 32 because she wanted a career that paid better but had a humanitarian element to it.
